Thal University student attempts suicide after gang rape

MIANWALI – A disturbing incident of sexual assault has been reported fro Bhakkar, as a university student was gang raped by group of students.

Police in Bhakkar came into action as graduate student from Thal University was rescued by passersby as she jumped into Thal canal in apparent suicide attempt. The victim was handed over to cops, where she narrated harrowing ordeal of gang rape.

The victim told cops that group of students abducted her from outside the university, took her to their hostel, battered her, and filmed the incident. After she lost consciousness, they left her in a nearby jungle.

The girl was then blackmailed by attackers, and they sexually assaulted her for more than a year.

Bhakkar police have lodged a case against eight culprits and have obtained a medical report of victim. The survivor’s brother has appealed to Punjab CM for intervention and to ensure severe punishment for the offenders.

On the other hand, Thal University spokesperson denounced the incident and pledged full support for the student. The university administration also expelled the accused students, banned them from entering the university, and withheld their final term results.

Cases of sexual assault are heinous problems in Pakistan where victims resist filing police complaints for the honor. In recent years, there have been growing reports of horrific instances of sexual assault in parts of the country.
