Shakira is prioritising her independence and motherhood over dating following her high-profile separation from ex-partner Gerard Piqué. In an interview with Rolling Stone, the 47-year-old singer expressed that she’s not actively seeking a romantic partner anytime soon.
“What space do I have for a man right now?” she questioned, emphasising that her primary focus is on her children, Milan, 11, and Sasha, 9. The singer and former soccer player ended their 11-year relationship in June 2022 amidst rumours of infidelity.
While Shakira admitted to still liking men, she joked about the challenges of finding love after experiencing heartbreak. However, she remains committed to prioritising her children’s emotional well-being before entering a new relationship.
The Grammy winner’s newfound independence has empowered her both personally and professionally. “I’m so much less fragile than I thought,” she revealed. “Through this process, I became stronger than I thought I was. I became a more independent person, one who doesn’t rely on anyone but herself and her wolf pack.”
This newfound independence has also fueled her creativity, allowing her to focus on producing a complete body of work, including her latest album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran. During an appearance on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Shakira playfully attributed her newfound productivity to being “husband-less,” stating that she was previously “dragged down” by the demands of a relationship.
With a world tour on the horizon and a renewed sense of self, Shakira is embracing her independence and focusing on her family and flourishing career.
