Princess Anne is currently in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, after sustaining minor injuries and a concussion.
The incident occurred on Sunday evening while the Princess Royal was walking on her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire. Emergency services were dispatched, and after receiving initial medical care at the scene, she was transferred to the hospital for further tests, treatment, and observation.
The cause of her injuries has not been confirmed, but Anne’s medical team indicated that her head injuries are consistent with an impact from a horse’s head or legs. Buckingham Palace released a statement saying, “The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening. Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery.”
Sir Timothy Laurence, her husband, accompanied Anne to the hospital. The King has been kept informed and joins the Royal Family in sending their well-wishes. Anne’s engagements for the week are postponed, including her planned trip to Canada. The Japanese State Visit will proceed as planned, though Anne will miss the State banquet. The Princess is an accomplished horsewoman, having attended the King’s Birthday Parade on horseback earlier this month.
