Pakistan, Turkiye aspire to expand bilateral trade to $5billion

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and Turkiye reaffirmed to expand bilateral trade to to $5 billion, as both sides are looking to further cement economic and defense ties.

Turkish Foreign Minister held meeting and press conference with Pakistan’s deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

Turkish FM stressed need to enhance brotherly relations and potential, saying two sides have set a new trade volume target of $5 billion, up from the current $1 billion.

This announcement comes two years after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the new trade target during his visit to Turkiye in June 2022, encouraging the business community to leverage the historic ties between the two countries.

Turkish Foreign Minister said the governments of two countries have made principal decision to expand and strengthen relations not only in trade but also in defense, including investment in banking, science, technology, and innovation.

Fidan noted that developments in Afghanistan impact Pakistan and expressed wish for lasting peace and stability in Afghanistan. Two nations discussed ways to encourage permanent peace and stability in Afghanistan, he said.

The visiting dignitary said Islamabad and Ankara would work together to amplify the voice of the Islamic world and collaborate on efforts to promote peace in critical regions globally. He invited his Pakistani counterpart to visit Turkiye at the earliest.

He extended support to Pakistan in fight against terrorism, and prayed for innocent lives who lost lives in this combat.
