Netflix has unveiled its viewership statistics for the latter half of 2023, revealing 90 billion hours of content streamed.
According to The Daily Mail, stalwarts like Gossip Girl, Gilmore Girls, and Grey’s Anatomy continued to draw millions of viewers but it was the live-action adaptation of the beloved Japanese manga series, One Piece, that claimed the top spot.
Garnering 71.6 million views and 541.9 million hours of watch time, One Piece shattered records upon its release in August 2023, captivating audiences worldwide.
Developed by showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda, the series follows the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, portrayed by Iñaki Godoy, on his quest for legendary treasure.
Despite its hefty price tag of $17 million per episode, One Piece’s success surpassed even that of Netflix’s Addams Family adaptation and Stranger Things.
Rounding out the top rankings were limited series like Dear Child and Who Is Erin Carter?, each gripping viewers with their compelling narratives. The French crime drama Lupin, along with
Netflix originals like The Witcher Season 3 and Sex Education: Season 4, also maintained strong viewership.
Additionally, documentaries like Beckham, offering an intimate look into the lives of David and Victoria Beckham, resonated with audiences and earned critical acclaim.
Lastly, perennial favorites like CoComelon and Virgin River Season 5, as well as The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5, contributed to Netflix’s diverse lineup of top-watched content.
