Dairy farmers and wholesalers have persuaded the Karachi commissioner to approve a price increase for milk. With mutual consent, the price of milk will rise by Rs20 per litre, bringing the retail price to Rs220 per litre.
The Karachi commissioner held a consultation meeting with representatives of dairy farmers, wholesalers, and retailers, which lasted several hours. It was decided that the price of milk per litre would increase by Rs20.
In the meeting, it was agreed that milk would be sold at Rs220 per litre at the retail level, with the farm rate set at Rs195 and the wholesale price at Rs205. A notification regarding the price increase has also been issued.
Previously, dairy farmers had demanded a farm rate of Rs250 and a retail price of Rs297 per litre.

The Karachi commissioner has collected written affidavits from dairy farmers, wholesalers, and retailers, ensuring strict adherence to the official price, which will be prominently displayed in shops.
The affidavits stipulate that wholesalers will issue receipts to retailers detailing the sale price and quantity, and compliance with quality and quantity standards will be maintained.
An agreement was made with the Karachi commissioner that dairy farmers, wholesalers, and retailers will not demand any further price increases until December 31, 2024 and will cooperate with the administration to enforce the official milk price.
