King Charles made first public appearance as Princess Anne continues to recover from head injury from a horse.
The 75-year-old monarch appeared somber as he was accompanied by wife Queen Camilla, waiting for ceremonial welcome of the Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress at Horse Guards.
Meanwhile, William, the Prince of Wales was assigned to bring the royal guests from their hotel to the venue, from where they will head to a state banquet at Buckingham Palace later in the day.
This is the first time a Japanese head of state visited the UK since 1998, as they intend to reinforce military, scientific, and cultural links between the two states.
The Princess Royal’s presence at the banquet has been marred by an unforeseen tragedy, which saw her getting struck on the head by a horse at Gloucestershire estate on Sunday evening.
She has since been taken to the hospital to get treatment for minor injuries and concussion, leading to a break from royal duties.
Anne is sure to be upset as she unwillingly sits out upcoming royal visit to Canada alongside eight royal engagement across the week.
As per a statement from Buckingham Palace, the King has been kept closely informed as he “joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to the princess for a speedy recovery.”
