ISLAMABAD – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has firmly rejected US Congress resolution calling for probe into February 8 elections.
Speaking in a special session of the National Assembly, Dar reiterated government’s stern foreign policy, emphasizing clear and strong stance on the serious matter. He noted that the government had already issued a prompt response to the US resolution, highlighting Islamabad’s status as the world’s second-largest parliamentary democracy.
Dar also suggested that meeting to discuss foreign policy be scheduled after the current budget session. National Assembly is currently focused on passing the budget. Once that is complete, we can turn our attention to this matter, he added.
Foreign Office already provided an effective response to the US resolution, which Dar reiterated by reading it out in the House. He also announced that Pakistan would issue its own resolution in response to the US House of Representatives’ resolution within a day or two.
The draft resolution is ready, and we have acknowledged the American resolution. We will definitely respond, he confirmed.
Foreign Minister also stressed Pakistan could discuss the internal affairs of other countries as well. “We cannot allow anyone to interfere in our internal matters,” he asserted, emphasizing that Pakistan had taken notice of the US resolution and would respond.
