Bishkek mob violence: Pakistan activates Crisis Management Unit for its nationals

ISLAMABAD – Ministry of Foreign Affairs has activated its Crisis Management Unit on the instruction of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.

Pakistani nationals in the Kyrgyz Republic and their families may contact the unit at 051-9203108 and 051-9203094.

The Crisis Management Unit may also be contacted via email [email protected].

In social media post, Ambassador of Pakistan in Bishkek Hasan Zaigham assured that the embassy is liaising with the local law enforcement authorities to ensure safety of the Pakistani students.

The envoy also shared helpline numbers +996555554476 and +996507567667, asking the students to call in case of emergency.

The Kyrgyz government has confirmed that no Pakistani student died in the recent mob violence against international students in Bishkek.

The Pakistan Embassy in Kyrgyzstan shared the statement of the government on social media platform X, formerly Twitter.

“Moreover, Kygyz Ministry of Internal Affairs has also issued press releases stating that the situation is under control,” the embassy said.

Earlier the embassy said it had “not received any confirmed report” regarding the alleged death and rape of Pakistani students in Kyrgyzstan despite claims circulating on social medial.

However, it added, that there have been reports that some Pakistani students has suffered minor injuries during the mob violence.

The violence erupted in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek due to a harassment incident involving Egyptian female students on May 13.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep concern over the situation of Pakistani students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

In a post on his X handle, he said Pakistan’s Ambassador has been directed to provide all necessary help and assistance to the students.

He said Prime Minister Office is also in touch with the Embassy and constantly monitoring the situation.
