Pakistani team comes under fire over somber performance in World Cup and previous series, prompting calls for major changes. Ahmad Shahzad, Pakistan’s seasoned player now called out the current setup, especially big guns in Team Green for the depressing results.
Shehzad, in his recent appearance on a TV show, voiced his concerns about the state of national squad, attributing its decline to selective players who had having apparent monopoly in the team.
Ahmad recalled undergoing rigorous testing in domestic cricket and called for top-tier players to also participate in domestic cricket to prove their worth before joining the national squad.
Shehzad also criticized Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi for his untimely decisions, such as delay in team announcements and last-minute changes, including appointing Babar Azam as captain in haste. He opined that Babar Azam has not improved significantly over the past five years and that Pakistani players remain in their comfort zones, needing more exposure before competing internationally.
Shehzad advised Chairman that minor changes, which he referred to as “surgery,” would not address the deeply rooted problems in Pakistani cricket. He emphasized the need for thorough investigations into past player issues and concluded by advocating for the promotion of new talent emerging from the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and domestic cricket.
