‘Never seen Team as Divided as Pakistan’, says Gary Kirsten after T20 World Cup exit

LAHORE – Pakistan’s humiliating exit from the T20 World Cup 2024 is being linked to internal groupings and disunity, and the latest to bemoan is head coach Gary Kirsten.

Head coach Kirsten said future team selections will prioritize players who believe in unity, fitness, and skill improvement.

He made strong statements after Green Shirts elimination from T20 World Cup 2024. Kirsten candidly addressed the team, expressing disappointment in the players’ fitness levels.

Kirsten noted substantial gap in skill level compared to international standards, as he highlighted lack of clarity in shot selection despite the players’ considerable match experience.

He further shared two cents on lack of unity within the team since he took charge, noting a lack of mutual support among players, which he considers unprecedented in his career.

The coach made it clear that players who show improvement in these areas will be retained, while those who do not may face exclusion from the team.

Pakistan Cricket Board plans to overhaul national team and management following their poor performance in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Changes are expected in player selection, team management, and central contracts. Captain Babar Azam may need to explain the team’s performance, and Shan Masood is rumored to be considered for captaincy in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh, with Jason Gillespie as coach.
