Theo James reflected on some the best acting he did for a project but it all went downhill too soon.
James, who played the romantic Henry DeTamble, in The Time Traveler’s Wife, shared in during a roundtable conversation with The Hollywood Reporter about the series, which was cancelled after one season.
“I played against myself,” the actor, 39, said of doing scenes opposite himself after Anthony Mackie shared about his.
“I put everything in it — some of my best work. I didn’t watch the show before the premiere because, at the time, everyone was like, ‘F–k yeah! This is f–king awesome!’”
He continued, “I’m feeling pretty good about this! I remember going down to the bar before the premiere and I looked to my phone. It was The New York Times and I thought, ‘Oh God. Oh God. I think I’ll have another drink.’ Then I had to show up to the thing, which had been f–king destroyed.”
James’ character in the science fiction TV series has a genetic order that causes him to time travel sporadically when he’s stressed.
HBO’s TV adaptation, which was based off the 2003 novel of the same name, followed the 2009 film starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana.
While the series had positive reviews, it was cancelled after the WarnerMedia and Discovery merger.
