T20 World Cup 2024: South Africa opt to bat first against Bangladesh

New York – South Africa beat Bangladesh by four runs in a Group D match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in New York on Monday.

Chasing a 114-run target for victory, Bangladesh reach 109/7 in the allocated 20 overs. Towhid Hirdoy was the top scorer with 37 runs followed by Mahmudullah who made 20. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto scored14 runs. No other batter could enter the double figures. Keshav Maharaj bagged three wickets while Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje took two wickets each. Heinrich Klaasen was named player of the match.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, South Africa lost four wickets in the first five overs with just 23 runs on the board. Heinrich Klaasen (46) and David Miller (29) steadied the ship by stitching 79-run partnership for the fifth wicket. South Africa lost both the set batters in quick succession and ended up at at 113/6 in the allocated 20 overs after failing to make a strong finish. Quinton de Kock scored 18 runs. Tanzim Hasan Sakib bagged three wickets and Taskin Ahmed two while Rishad Hossain got one wicket.
