Lahore, Punjab weather update; heatwave prevails, rains likely on May 31

LAHORE – Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Friday, May 31. Isolated rains and gusty winds are likely to provide some relief to the people from the prevailing harsh weather conditions.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow westerly wave persists over northern parts of the country.

Under these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Murree, Galyat, Chakwal, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Faisalabad, Mandi Bahauddin and Sargodha on Friday. Extremely hot weather with gusty/dust-raising winds are expected in southern districts and hot and dry weather elsewhere in the province.

Lahore’s maximum temperatures will likely stay between 45-47°C on Friday and 44-46°C Saturday.

Meanwhile, heatwaves prevailed in Lahore and Punjab’s plains during the last 24 hours. Gusty/dust-raising winds occurred during the afternoon.

Bahawalnagar and Khanpur remained the hottest places in the province where the maximum temperature was recorded at 48°C. Maximum temperature in Kasur, Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalpur, Bhakkar, Joharabad, Khanewal, Mandi Bahauddin and Noorpur Thal was recorded at 47°C.

In Lahore, the maximum temperature was recorded at 46°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 33 per cent.
